Launching a scathing attack at former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ram Vilas Vedanti for owning up responsibility for the demolition of the Babri mosque, the Janata Dal (United) on Saturday said the former was making such statements to secure his future in politics.

"Ram Vilas is neither a member of BJP nor the party has given any ticket to him. So to secure his future in politics, he is making such statements," JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav told ANI.

Reacting to the same, JD(U) leader Pavan Varma said Vedanti's statement would be considered as evidence in the Babri masjid demolition case.

"I think what Vedanti has said will now be considered as a part of the bevidence. The Supreme Court has said that the case will be heard and disposed off within two years. Therefore, it becomes a part of the legal process now. So, whatever people have to say, it must be said in the purview of law in court," Varma told ANI.

A day before, Vedanti claimed that it was on his instruction that the 'kar sevaks' had demolished the mosque on December 6, 1992.

Asserting that accusations against Advani and Joshi were wrong, Vedanti further said the BJP veterans were trying to bring the volunteers under control.

"Mahant Avaidynath and Ashok Singhal (both deceased) were with me when we got the structure demolished. L.K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi were trying to bring the volunteers under control. The accusations against them are wrong," he said.

Vedanti's remarks came two days after the Supreme Court revived the conspiracy charges against Advani, Joshi and Uma Bharti in the Babri Masjid demolition case.
