Tasmanian Tigers coach Dan Marsh, who was captain when George Bailey appeared on the first-class scene has said that he deserves the Ashes spot at number six, because he has been Australia's best one-day player for some time now.

According to News.com.au, he points not only to his imposing ODI record, but also past Shield seasons, where Bailey has stacked up the numbers.

However, Ian Chappell said that facing a quality England attack on bouncy Australian pitches was a far cry from what Bailey has been relishing in India.

Marsh said that what Bailey had done in international one-day cricket against the best bowlers in the world should give him a lot of confidence going into Test cricket.

He added that he agreed it was a different game but he had faced all kinds of bowlers and scored a lot of runs against them.

Marsh further said that Bailey had become a really consistent first class batsman for Tasmania and was a good package for that number six spot.
