United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday expressed concern over the growing restrictions on media freedoms during his address at the 70th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) General Debate.

"I am deeply troubled by growing restrictions on media freedoms and civil society across the world," Moon said in his address.

"There is nothing we can say to the world's children that can convince them the world needs to be the way it is," he further said.

He said that the world is going through a time of severe test and great opportunity

"We must close the gap between the world as it is and the world as it should be," he said.

Over 150 world leaders are taking part in the UN General Assembly's annual General Debate where issues like sustainable development, climate change, refugee crisis, terrorism and tackling ISIS are likely to be discussed.
