Pushing for a radical shift to greener economies, UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon told delegates of about 190 nations at climate talks in Lima that there was no "time for tinkering".

According to The Guardian, Ban said there was still a chance of limiting global warming to an internationally agreed ceiling of 2C above pre-industrial times in the hope of limiting floods, droughts, desertification and rising sea levels.

He said that the window of opportunity was fast narrowing, adding that this was not a time for tinkering, but for transformation.

He further said that despite progress, he was deeply concerned that the nations' collective action did not match their common responsibilities.
