Bandra -Dehradun Express fire: Nine killed, Railways order probe

Nine people have been killed in a fire that broke out on the Bandra-Dehradun Express near Dahanu Road Railway station in Maharashtra's Thane district this morning.

The fire broke out in S3, S4 and S5, three sleeper coaches of the train, at around 2.30 am when most passengers were asleep.

The train has been brought to the Gholvad Railway Station, which is around 145 kilomters north of Mumbai.

Efforts are currently on to separate the three charred coaches, so that the rest of the train can be sent to Dehradun.

Meanwhile, Union Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 500,000 to the families of the dead.

 

The Railway Board has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
