Rejecting Leader of Opposition Khaleda Zia's charge that the Bangladesh Election commission is worthless and spineless, Election Commissioner Zabed Ali said the commission's spine is 'strong enough'.
Khaleda, a former prime minister and chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, has been targetting the Election Commission in her speeches at her recent public rallies.
To prove that the commission is not 'worthless', or 'spineless', Ali stood upright in his office to show there was no problem with his spine.
"Election commissioners are not spineless. The spines of all our commissioners are strong enough," the New Age daily quoted him, as saying.
He later said the commission hoped that it could hold participatory free and fair national elections.
