Bangladesh's State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said Sunday that the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League Government would approach the Indian Government soon with a request to extradite Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the seven murders that took place in the country's Narayanganj District in April this year.
Kamal's comment came a day after Hossain was arrested by Kolkata Police from a place close to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport.
He was taken into custody at around 9.30 p.m. on Saturday from the fourth floor of Indraprastha apartment complex in the Koikhali area of the city. Hossain was reportedly arrested along with two of his accomplices.
The Daily Star quoted Arnab Ghosh, Deputy Commissioner of the Bidhan Nagar police area, as confirming this news.
Hossain stands accused for the gruesome abduction and killing of seven people, including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and an advocate Chandan Sarker. The seven were abducted on April 27. Six bodies were found floating in the Shitalakkhya River on April 30 and the seventh body was found on April 28.
Kamal expressed the hope that Hossain would brought back for trial without any difficulties as there is an extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India.
Hossain and his two aides are lodged in the Baguihati Police Station in Kolkata, according to a Somoy TV report.
A firearm, several mobile phones, SIM cards, laptop and compact disks (CDs) have been recovered from their possession.
