'Bangladesh has high expectations from PM Modi's visit': Gowher Rizvi

Foreign Policy Advisor to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Gowher Rizvi, on Saturday said that the country has really high expectations from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit and added that both the governments have to work very hard to meet public expectations.

"We consider it to be a landmark and an important visit by the Prime Minister of India. We are looking forward to working together so that we can take maximum advantage in this bi-lateral cooperation. An overwhelming majority welcomes this visit. Also, the expectations from this visit are high and both the government have to work very hard to meet this public expectations," said

 

He further said that the Teesta issue was an important one and added that he hoped it would be resolved soon.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Dhaka for his two-day state visit to Bangladesh earlier today.

He was received by Sheikh Hasina and was also accorded a Guard of Honour on his arrival to the country.

The Prime Minister will attend several programmes, which include his meeting with Sheikh Hasina. He will also pay tribute to martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War at the National Martyrs' Memorial and visit the Bangabandhu National Museum to pay tribute to Bangladesh's Founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
