The Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led 20-party alliance said Tuesday that its strike would continue till Thursday evening in protest against the filing of cases against BNP chief Khaleda Zia and acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
A press release to this effect was floated by BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed.
The press release said the shutdown is being observed till Thursday to protest what it said was the killing and forced disappearance of the party leaders and activists, attacks on party men and filing cases against them, repression on journalists, controls on media and the government interference in judiciary.
Meanwhile, the nation's Shipping Minister, Shajahan Khan, has demanded the immediate arrest of Khaleda Zia and urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to order it for the sake of country.
