One operative member from the banned militant outfit Neo-Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was killed in an encounter by the Bangladeshi police on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Arman Ali, who was a caretaker of a militant den which was busted earlier on June 1, where the police arrested wives of two Neo-JMB leaders, reported The Daily Star.

The Officer-in-charge (OC) of the Daulatpur Police Station, Shah Dara Khan, said that two police teams conducted a drive after getting information about a 'secret meeting' of the militants at the Boalia intersection point.

"Sensing the presence of police, the militants opened fire at the law enforcers. In retaliation, the police also fired gun shots at them, triggering the gunfight," Khan said.

The police found the bullet-riddled body of Ali, whereas the other militants fled the scene after the encounter.

The police have also recovered a foreign-made pistol, three machetes, and two bullets from the spot.

Khan said, three security personnel got injured in the firing exchange and they were sent to the Daulatpur upazila health complex for medical assistance.

Ali worked as a cable line operator in Bheramara upazila town. He hailed from Thakurpur village in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia.

Earlier on August 22, three operatives of "Sarwar-Tamim" of the Neo-JMB were arrested by the police from two upazilas of Narayanganj.

A team of RAB-11 arrested the three suspected militants from the Rupganj and Bandar upazilas.
