The Supreme Court of Bangladesh on Sunday allowed veteran journalist Shafik Rehman to move an appeal against a High Court order that rejected him bail in a sedition case.

The Supreme Court also directed the jail authorities to take steps for proper treatment of Rehman.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order and asked the police to report on the progress of probe in the case, reports the Daily Star.

The apex court passed the order after Rehman challenged a High Court order that rejected his plea on June 7 seeking bail in the sedition case.

He was arrested on April 16 in a case filed for alleged attempts to abduct and murder Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
