Bangladesh medium fast bowler Rubel Hossain, who has been named in the nation's World Cup squad, was reportedly behind bars on Thursday after he was remanded in custody over alleged charges of raping an actress.

A magistrate in the capital Dhaka, delivered the order after actress Naznin Akter Happy lodged a complaint of rape and a false promise of marriage against the cricketer last month.

The court's decision has put a huge question mark over Hossain's appearance in the World Cup that starts in Australia and New Zealand next month after selectors shortlisted him in the 15-man squad last weekend, the Dawn reported.

Deputy commissioner of Dhaka police Anisur Rahman said that the metropolitan magistrate court rejected Hossain's bail plea, adding that the cricketer was sent to prison pending the next hearing of the case.

No date has been set for the next hearing of the cricketer.

The fast bowler has rejected the accusations of rape or making a marriage proposal, saying Happy was trying to blackmail him. He also ruled out marrying the actress.

Hossain has played 22 Tests for Bangladesh and taken 32 wickets. He has also taken 69 wickets in 53 ODIs including a hattrick against New Zealand, the report added.
