An elderly Bangladeshi immigrant, who had been living in the United Kingdom without proper documents, was killed in an immigration facility in Greater London.
Tarek Chowdhury, 64, was attacked during an incident at Colnbrook Removal Centre in Harmondsworth, West Drayton on Thursday morning. He succumbed to his injuries around 9:30pm, reports the Dhaka Tribune.
Another immigrant, Zana Assad Yusif, 31, was arrested along with two others in connection with the incident. Assad was charged with murder on Friday and sent to jail Saturday through Hendon Magistrates' Court.
The two other men arrested on suspicion were later released.
Colnbrook detains people subject to immigration control and has the capacity to hold up to 396 men and 27 women.
Tarek hailed from south Surma in Sylhet. He went to the UK around 12 years back and was recently taken to the detention centre for deportation.
