Barack Obama celebrated the women of soul at the White House on Thursday with one misspelling.

The president and First Lady hosted an event, honoring the "foremothers" of American music, including legendary singer Aretha Franklin, the Politico reported.

Telling the story of one of Franklin's first live performances in 1967, Obama said one musician describing the concert said, "The floors rumbled and the walls shook. My brain shook. It was magic."

However, according to the pool report, the president misspelled the singer's empowerment anthem, accidentally calling it "R-S-P-E-C-T," which led to laughter in the room.

The "Women in Soul" event - held in the East Room - was the latest "In Performance at the White House" series celebrating American music. It included performances by Franklin, as well as Tessanne Chin, Melissa Etheridge, Ariana Grande, Patti LaBelle, Janelle Monae and Jill Scott.
