Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers on Tuesday attributed the BJP's splendid show in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his 'vision for development'.

He also thanked the BJP workers and said that they have created this historic win.

"The people of Karnataka, the Silicon Valley, have voted for us. They have rejected Congress," said Kumar.

When asked whether the results in favour of the BJP came as a surprise for him, Kumar said he was confident that the people would give them a clear mandate.

"From the pulse of the people, we knew that they are going to give us a clear mandate. We take this historic win with humility," he added.

The BJP emerged victorious in 100 seats of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), while the Congress won 75 seats.

The JD (S) won 14 seats while the independent candidates achieved victory in eight seats.

Voting for BBMP polls was held on Saturday in 197 of the 198 wards.
