Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and BCCI honorary secretary Anurag Thakur on Monday condemned the Shiv Sena protest outside the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
The protest led to the cancellation of talks between BCCI president Shashank Manohar and PCB chairman Shahryar Khan. Earlier, another BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy had also criticised the Shiv Sena, an ally of his party, over the same issue.
"In a democracy, you have a right to protest but you can protest in the public places you can protest on the TV channel on social media but this is not the right way to barge into someone's office and protest. I condemn the way they have protested," Thakur told ANI here.
Following the protest, the meeting which was scheduled to discuss the revival of proposed bilateral series between India-Pakistan was cancelled.
Expressing his views on the same, Thakur said, "You communicate when you talk and if there is no talk you are unable to convey what are the reasons. I think our president is competent enough to take a call on that and to convey the right message."
Thakur also said that the decision regarding the revival of cricket between the two nations would be taken keeping in mind the sentiments of Indian citizen.
"As far as BCCI is concerned we will take the call in the interest for Indian team as per the guidelines of the Indian Government and looking after the overall sentiments of all Indians." He added.
Shahryar and PCB's executive committee head Najam Sethi are in the city for the meeting after discussing about the planned series with the BCCI secretary earlier on the sidelines of the ICC meeting in Dubai.
According to the MoU signed between the PCB and the BCCI, both countries are scheduled to play six series under the 2015-2023 Future Tours Programme, subject to clearance from the Indian Government.
India has not played a full bilateral Test series with Pakistan since 2008 when the Mumbai terror attacks took place. (ANI)
