David Beckham's rejection for a knighthood led to massive explosive row in Honours committee meeting last year.

Lord Coe and the committee which oversees awards to sports stars saw their recommendation to knight the 38-year-old former footballer overturned.

It had emerged that a "fierce debate" broke out at the important meeting last November, the Mirror reported.

There was a split between members who claimed that making him Sir David and his wife "Lady Posh" was too soon.

According to a source, people who decided honors were happy to dole them out to time-serving politicians but not sports heroes who have achieved far more.
