Autorities in Berlin have banned street performers, who dress up as Mickey Mouse, Darth Vader and Berlin Bear characters, from the Brandenburg Gate.
According to the Telegraph, despite the artists' argument that they are free to perform at the monument as artists, the authorities of the historic city, which was severely damaged during WWII, ruled that dressing as a TV or film character is not an artistic performance.
The law also prohibits people from portraying statues and fake soldiers dressed in soviet-era uniform, who charge tourists for East German passport stamps according to the newspaper, from vying for the attention of tourists.
The law has accommodated street musicians and portrait paint as artists, permitting them to continue working in the square.
