An American bus driver was saved by a Bible when the thick book stopped the bullets, fired by his assailants, from doing any fatal harm, according to news reports.
The Dayton Daily News said that Rickey Wagoner, a 49-year-old bus driver for the Dayton Regional Transit Authority, is now recovering in a hospital from gunshot wounds to his chest and leg and multiple stab wounds.
Dayton police said Wagoner was assaulted at about 5:20 a.m. Monday by three assailants in the 1900 block of Lakeview Avenue, the Washington Times reported.
Wagoner had stepped off his bus to inspect it after it stopped running when the trio approached and tried to shoot and stab him.
The book that Wagoner was carrying was 2,200 page 'The Message Bible' by Eugene H. Peterson.
