Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manoj Tewari on Saturday described Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's 'chopping hands' remark as inappropriate, saying he must have been driven by emotions while making this comment.
"This is a wrong statement. We do not expect a Chief Minister to use such kind of language. But I would also say that he has a clean heart and he must have been driven by emotions while making this comment. He spoke like this out of innocence," said Tewari.
BJP leader Siddharth Nath, however, asked the Bihar Chief Minister to apologise for his unwarranted statement.
"It is unfortunate that the Chief Minister is making such statements. It is not easy to become a doctor and saying that we will chop their hands is very disappointing. He should apologise," he said.
Manjhi had earlier on Friday said that he will cut off the hands of those found playing with the lives of the poor while referring to the doctors who have been treating those injured in the recent stampede at Patna's Gandhi Maidan.
Thirty-three people lost their lives and several injured in the stampede that took place at the Gandhi Maidan on October 3 during the Dussehra celebrations.
All the patients are being provided free of cost treatment at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Bihar.
