Expelled Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Monday requested Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi to cancel the appointment of Nitish Kumar to the top post in the state, alleging that the latter had been elected in an 'unconstitutional' manner.
"I have requested him [Governor Tripathi] to cancel the appointment of Nitish Kumar as this is illegal because the leader of the party should be calling the meeting, which is me. It is unconstitutional to elect a leader in this manner," Manjhi said to the media.
"I have requested for a secret ballot voting and that during counting, representatives from both the parties should be there. I have left everything for the Governor to decide. He assured me he will soon take a call," he added.
Earlier in the day, JD (U) chief Sharad Yadav expelled Jitan Ram Manjhi from the party after the latter refused to step down as the Bihar chief minister.
According to reports, the JD (U) chief had asked Manjhi to step down as chief minister in view of the selection of his predecessor Nitish Kumar as the new leader of legislative party.
