Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) leader Upendra Kushwaha is slated not to attend an Iftar party, organised by the Janata Dal United (JDU) in Patna on Wednesday, following reports of a rift stemming in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state.
Straining relations in the NDA alliance in the state were reported after a meeting and a dinner, attended by the likes of Ram Vilas Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party and Nitish Kumar of the JDU, was skipped by Kushwaha.
Dissatisfaction among RLSP leaders regarding Nitish Kumar being the Chief Minister of the state surfaced recently, as they believed that their party was the more influential in the state.
RSLP leader Nagmani recently said that Nitish Kumar was not the only Chief Ministerial candidate from Bihar, and demanded that RLSP leader Upendra Kushwaha be considered as the chief ministerial candidate for the state.
He said, "If NDA has to win big in Lok Sabha elections and assembly elections in Bihar then Upendra Kushwaha(RLSP Chief) has to be the CM. We are not against Nitish Kumar, but in today's circumstances NDA can't win with Nitish as face."
Taking a jibe at Nitish Kumar, Nagmani said that the latter could switch from one party to the other any time.
This was followed by an Iftaar party thrown by the RLSP which was not attended by leaders of other members of the alliance, with Nityanand Rai of the Bharatiya Janata Party the only notable attendee.
