Bill Cosby's longtime producer Tom Werner has spoken up for the first time and said that though it was a challenging time he still hopes people would like to "watch the show and identify with the Huxtables."

Though Werner refused to talk about the comedian, who's facing dozens of sexual assault allegations, he emphasised that the legacy of 'The Cosby Show' was important to him, reported the Hollywood Reporter.

It was a groundbreaking show and portrayed a middle-class African-American family in a very positive way, he added.

'The Cosby Show's legacy is not harmed at the moment, as channels have yanked repeats in light of the scandal and the series is yet to be removed from streaming services.
