Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev has been ordered by a Court in Geneva to pay a record 4.5 billion dollars alimony to his ex-wife, making it the costliest divorce settlement in history.

Owner of French football team AS Monaco, Rybolovlev has been fighting over divorce terms with wife, Elena Rybolovleva since 2008.

According to the BBC, the Geneva court's verdict over the settlement would mean that the billionaire would drastically lose half of his estimated fortune.

Concerns are now being raised over the future of AS Monaco as the football baron is now deprived of almost his entire fortune in the record-breaking settlement.

Rybolovlev bought the club in 2011 and has spent millions on signing high-profile football players like James Rodriguez, Dimitar Berbatov and Ricardco Carvalho.

The team, which is based in the tiny state of Monaco, plays in the top football leagues of France, and has recently finished as defending champions to Paris Club this season.
