United States Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Biswal will not visit Sri Lanka's Northern Province as was originally scheduled for her two-day visit to the island-nation.
The U.S. Embassy said in a release here that Biswal's meetings will take place in Colombo before she departs.
It said that she would meet with representatives of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) before she leaves today.
On Monday, she called on President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera, among others.
Both Sri Lanka and the United States are in agreement that both governments need to work hard to take bilateral ties to the next level.
The focus areas, she said, would be the economy, ways to prevent corruption and advancing good governance, ensuring human rights and democratic participation for all citizens.
She said, according to the Colombo Page, Washington looks forward to "growing and deepening our partnership, to advancing trade and investment, and to expanding the bonds between our people, our governments, and our civil societies and our businesses.
