The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Friday that a special investigation team (SIT) should probe the spot-fixing accusations currently gripping the money-spinning Indian Premier League (IP) cricket league.
The scam threatens of having its roots fixed deep in the top brass of the country's cricket board.
Recently, three players, including former test cricketer Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, and nearly a dozen of bookies were arrested on suspicion of spot fixing in the IPL matches.
Sreesanth, who played for the Rajasthan Royals franchise in this season's IPL, has been accused of taking money to concede a fixed number of runs in one of his overs during a May 9 match against Kings XI Punjab.
According to media reports, the name of BCCI president N. Srinivasan's son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan has now emerged in the whole scam.
"A special investigation team should be formed, infact it should have been formed by now, it should have been formed on the day this scam emerged. We are seeing that continuously people associated with the IPL, its administrators are facing the heat. They need to take strong action and ban all the guilty players. Also the BCCI should form strong laws to prevent such things from happening," said BJP spokesperson, Vijay Sonkar Shastri.

The net of spot fixing, in IPL tourney widened as police nab more bookies from different parts of the country as well as raid the residence of M Gurunath, kin of the country's cricket board chief, N Srinivasan, who also owns one of the participating teams, Chennai Super Kings.
Police raided Gurunath's residence after the arrested Bollywood actor, Vindoo Dara Singh, spilled the beans during his interrogation.
