A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members met Bihar Governor Dnyandeo Yashwantrao Patil at the Raj Bhavan here on Sunday to discuss the stampede that occurred on October 3 at Patna's Gandhi Maidan resulting in the death of 33 people.

Addressing the media before the meeting, Bihar state BJP president Mangal Pandey said, "We have come to talk to the Governor of Bihar and to share with him all that happened on October 3 in the Gandhi Maidan area of the city. We will discuss the reasons behind the tragedy, what steps the police is taking to tackle this and the role of the state government, which has resulted in the loss of lives."

"We will ask the Governor whether a state government that cannot protect its citizens has the right to stay in power," Pandey added.

BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha, who was also part of the BJP delegation, said, "We will also talk of the measures taken for the safety of people for the upcoming Chhath Puja and will discuss the flouting of regulations by the concerned officials at every festival, which could result in a tragedy as great as the one at Gandhi Maidan."

The stampede on Friday resulted in the death of 33 people, with several others injured, following Dussehra celebrations at the Gandhi Maidan.
