Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday sought resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav after the latter sacked 36 junior ministers for his party's defeat in the general elections.
BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar asked Akhilesh Yadav to quit on the basis of bad governance record in the state.
"Actually, the government should resign because this government has lost morality and credibility. This government has harassed people. If some have to resign on the basis of performance then Akhilesh himself should quit," Javadekar said in New Delhi.
SP leader Naresh Agarwal sought stringent action against non-performing ministers.
"Action has been taken against some people. I believe that stringent action should be taken against all those who are responsible for the party's decline. Those who were unpopular, those who made the government unpopular and those who could take government's achievements to the people," Agarwal said in New Delhi.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) won only five out of 80 parliament seats while Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally cornered 73 seats.
Earlier in the day, Akhilesh Yadav reportedly sacked 36 ministers from his cabinet over defeat in polls, although, he dodged the question about his resignation.
In one of its worst performance, the Samajwadi Party just won five seats, losing out to the BJP, which won a record 73 seats out of 80 seats in the state.
