The District Magistrate of Agra has denied permission to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hold a "Swabhimaan Rally" in the city on September 15.

District Magistrate Zuher Bin Sagir is said to have cited the recent disturbances in Muzzafarnagar as the reason for denying permission to the BJP for the event.

The rally was to be held in Akola, which is about 18-kilometers from Agra.

The district administration has imposed prohibitory orders in the area under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, that bars unlawful assembly.
