Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Saturday took a jibe at Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar over the ongoing political turmoil in Bihar and said that his party has always been in support of elections in the state.

"We are keeping an eye on the situation. Nitish ji had said big words while sacrificing his post for a Dalit chief minister. What happened within these seven months that this situation has arrived? However, we do not have the whole report yet but the BJP has always been in favour of elections," said Modi after his meeting with BJP chief Amit Shah in the national capital.

Shah had a meeting with the state party leaders from Bihar in view of the current political situation during which they discussed the political situation and party strategy.

Bihar BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav also attended the meeting.

Earlier today, Jitan Ram Manjhi was sacked as the chief minister of Bihar with the party MLAs electing his predecessor, Nitish Kumar, as their leader during the JD (U) legislature party meeting.

This move by the Janata Dal (United) takes place following the internal friction within the party, as a defiant Manji had refused to give up the chief minister's post.

Senior JD (U) leaders wanted his predecessor Nitish to lead the party yet again in the run-up to the elections due in the state later this year.

Manjhi, who headed a minority government supported by Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal ( RJD), had earlier declared a meeting called today by JD (U) chief Sharad Yadav as 'illegal'.

Manjhi, who had embarrassed his party on several occasions during his short tenure, had contended that only the chief minister can call a meeting of MLAs.

Nitish, who had resigned as chief minister owning responsibility for his party getting only two of Bihar's 40 Lok Sabha seats, had handpicked Manjhi to take his place last year.
