After Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was allegedly attacked with chilli powder at the Secretariat, Aam Aadmi Party spokespersons Raghav Chaddha and Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday claimed that the attackers were backed by the BJP's Central government.
Talking to media persons, Bharadwaj said, "Bharatiya Janata Party's Central government has created an atmosphere where anti-social elements are being instigated to attack Chief Minister Kejriwal. Attackers know they will get all protection from the Central government."
Raghav Chaddha alleged that the Delhi Police had no intention of taking action against the attacker. "The attackers are being provided full protection by the Delhi Police. The police have no intention to take firm action against the attacker on the Chief Minister," said Chaddha.
Chaddha claimed to be present at the time of the incident and alleged that nobody attempted to stop the accused from entering Kejriwal's office with something in his hand.
"I am an eyewitness to what has happened today. It is shocking and shameful that such an incident took place at the Chief Minister's office. We saw that a man enters his (Arvind Kejriwal) office with something in his hand and nobody tries to stop him. If the police conduct an independent investigation in the matter, I will certainly record my statement."
The party alleged that the BJP has a role in the attack. Sharpening their attack on the central government led by the BJP, Bharadwaj said, "Rogue elements, who are attacking the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, are backed by the BJP. They wanted to attack the Chief Minister even on the inauguration of Signature Bridge. It is clear that the BJP is trying to suppress us."
"If the Chief Minister is not safe and there are attempts to kill him, then how can the common man be safe?" asked Chaddha.
The Delhi Police have detained one person for allegedly throwing chilli powder at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The man, who identified himself as Anil Kumar, allegedly attacked the Delhi Chief Minister near his office inside the Secretariat building with chilli powder.
