Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of playing with the sentiments of people in the name of Hindutva.
Further sharpening her attack, Mayawati asserted that the BJP will not able to reap political benefits by harping on Ram temple construction.
She said, "The central government has not fulfilled even one-fourth of the promises they made. These people are playing with the sentiments of the public in the name of Hindutva, especially with the issue of constructing Ram Mandir (temple) in Uttar Pradesh as elections are coming closer. But, no matter how many Ram temples they construct, they won't be able to reap political benefits from it. The people have understood that they are using this issue as a cover-up for their mistakes."
She was equally critical of the Congress and said that both, BJP as well as Congress, are two sides of the same coin. "Like other states in the nation, Dalits, farmers, backward classes and religious minorities in Chhattisgarh are being exploited in every sphere of life. These people are unable to access the benefits laid down in government policies, and BJP as well as Congress are responsible for this; these political parties have done nothing for the poor. People should be aware of their tactics," she said.
"In the ensuing Chhattisgarh assembly elections, we will make all efforts so that the alliance with Ajit Jogi-led Janta Congress Chhattisgarh comes to power with full majority. After we win, our government will work especially for Dalits, tribals, backward classes, religious minorities, farmers, labourers and the poor," Mayawati promised.
