BJP pulls up KCR for praising last Nizam of Hyderabad, Congress plays safe

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday lashed out at Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for lavishing praise on the last Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, adding that unwarranted remark by somebody in his position can potentially harm the country's peace process.

"It was KCR from Telangana who said that he was like a Hitler and any media personnel attack him would not be spared. If I am remembering correctly, his daughter had also commented that Jammu and Kashmir and Hyderabad are not integral part of India. So, these are unbecoming statement from a Chief Minister," said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra.

"A Chief Minister's post is a responsible post. He should think twice before he speaks because it sends a strong message not only to India but to the detractors of peace process that India is pursuing in the international world," he added.

The Congress party, however, avoided commenting on his remark.

"I do not know under what context and what circumstances did the Chief Minister of Telangana make that comment. Till that point in time, the context and the circumstance is not available, it would not be proper to comment," said Congress leader Manish Tewari.

"Why should he not praise? If somebody is doing good work then he should be praised. But politicising religion and giving it a priority is something which I do not give importance and neither does the Congress. The Congress works constitutionally," added senior Congress leader and former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit.

The Telangana Chief Minister had earlier on Thursday vowed to revive the glory of the Nizams in order to transform the state into 'Bangaru Telangana'.

"Nizam was a great king though he might have committed some mistakes," he had said.
