The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday hit back at senior CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury for criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his frequent foreign tours and said the Left leaders should reflect on their declining relevance rather than worrying about the nation.
"I don't know in what context the Left party leaders are making a criticism. Perhaps, they should reflect on their own declining relevance and the fact that they are also facing a lot of internal problems. That may be more relevant for them today," said BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli.
"Modiji is working while he's in India and sometimes when he travels abroad. All of these activities are focused on strengthening India, its economic activities and international standing, and this is acknowledged widely. With regard to the country, they should not worry," he added.
Earlier in the day, Yechury alleged that Prime Minister Modi is travelling abroad so much now to make up for not being permitted to travel to some countries for many years.
Referring to the comments made by Prime Minister Modi in Canada that his government was cleaning up the mess left behind by the previous regimes, Yechury alleged that it is a sustained political campaign.
Addressing the Indian diaspora at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, Prime Minister Modi had criticized the previous governments.
