Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta on Thursday accused the Delhi Government of deliberately omitting the name of Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung from the annual diary with an "intention to disrespect the constitutional post".

"The elimination of the Lieutenant Governor' name and office from the official diary of the Delhi Government is disrespect to the constitutional post. This is for the first time that such documents of the Delhi Government having no mention of the LG office," Gupta told reporters here.

"We feel the diary is incomplete without the mention of the LG office. We equally believe that this was done with "bad intentions, with an aim to deliberately disrespect the Lt. Governor of Delhi," he added.

Gupta further displayed the Delhi Government's diary of 2012 where the name of the LG is listed at the top.

He asked, "We want to ask the assembly speaker and the Delhi Government that what their intentions are, and why they are insulting a constitutional arrangement?"

Referring to the rule book of the state government, Gupta pointed out that the position of the LG has a special status under the Article 239 AA.

"The LG in one way is the head (mukhiya) of the Delhi Government, and removing his name and address is very unwelcoming, and we condemn it," he said.

"They should withdraw the diary immediately, and should release an amended diary. The government should apologise for this irresponsible act," he added.
