Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Vijender Kumar Gupta, who has been chosen as the Leader of Opposition, on Wednesday said his party is ready for the challenge of functioning as the opposition in the Delhi Assembly.
"We are ready for the challenge. If the AAP thinks that the opposition does not have strength, they are wrong," said Gupta.
Gupta, who was earlier the president of BJP's Delhi unit, was today chosen as the Leader of Opposition by his party.
Gupta, a member of the BJP's national executive and one of the three successful candidates in Delhi Assembly polls, was elected from West Delhi's Rohini constituency.
The BJP suffered a rout in the recently held Delhi Assembly polls, with only three of its candidates securing a seat in the elections.
The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 67 out of the 70 seats on offer in the Delhi polls, becoming the first non-Congress and non-BJP party to rule the city.
The first session of the Delhi Assembly begins on Monday.
