Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nalin Kohli on Tuesday said that while his party had put forth a proposal of 130 seats to the Shiv Sena, it was not a suitable time to comment on the issue while both parties were trying to reach a conclusion over seat sharing issue in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

"We have been allies for a long time, we are talking with each other, and proposals are being exchanged. Mr. Rudy said that our proposal of 130 seats has been given to the Shiv Sena. So, while the leadership is speaking with each other, we should not make any comments at this point of time," said Kohli.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra BJP president Devendra Fadnavis that the ongoing BJP meet in the state was to strategize and chalk out a plan for the Maharashtra elections.

"We have just called on our state unit to plan a strategy and create a blue-print for the upcoming polls. This meeting is not for taking the final decision; it is for planning BJP's party strategy, and how we will be fighting the elections," said Fadnavis.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has offered to contest in 130 Assembly seats in the upcoming Maharashtra elections to the Shiv Sena's 158, as opposed to the previous offer of contesting 135 seats.

Earlier today, party in-charge of Maharashtra Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that it was a very liberal proposal and hoped the Shiv Sena would consider it favourably.

The Shiv Sena and the BJP have been bickering over the sharing of seats for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

September 27 is the deadline for filing of nominations for the Maharashtra Assembly polls, which is scheduled to be held on October 15. There are 288 seats in the state.
