Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader DK Aruna went on hunger strike here against the alleged "unlimited" sale of liquor in Telangana.
"On behalf of the BJP, we are on a hunger strike against the sale of liquor in Telangana state which has become unlimited. Since last five years, revenue and consumption has doubled. Everywhere we find liquor shops, every village is having belt shops. Highways, schools, colleges, temples, mosques, residential areas are surrounded by liquor shops," Aruna told ANI here.
"It has become very easy for small kids to purchase and consume liquor. Due to this, more and more children are getting addicted," she alleged.
"Recently, the incident of rape and murder in Hyderabad has occurred after consumption of liquor. KCR (Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao) tells that consumption of alcohol is culture of Telangana state. KCR must realize where is he leading this state. All the harassment and assault on women and girls is due to consumption of alcohol. We are on a hunger strike on this issue until we get a solution to this liquor problem in the state," the BJP leader added.
