Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) still respects late Shiv Sena patriarch Balasaheb Thackeray even after the recent break up in the 25-year-old alliance.

"Even if the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance could not carry forward, but we still respect Balasaheb Thackeray," he said while addressing a rally in Maharashtra's Chimur district.

Highlighting various welfare schemes introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre, Rajnath said, "The Gujarat Model is talked about not only in India but everywhere in the world. I can say with confidence that we successfully controlled inflation since we came to power."

"India should have been one of the most powerful nations, the Congress should answer why it wasn't so after they ruled for so long," he added while lashing out at the Congress.

The Home Minister sought a decisive mandate for the BJP and urged the people to vote for his party so that it forms the government in the state with absolute majority.

Maharashtra will go to polls along with Haryana on October 15 while the counting of votes in both states will take place on October 19.
