The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday (BJP) confirmed the suspension of Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Lal Babu for allegedly sexually harassing a woman Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) MLC.

BJP President Nityanand Rai today formally announced that BJP MLC Lal Babu has been suspended on grounds of sexually harassing LJP MLC Nutan Singh.

"BJP MLC Lal Babu has been officially suspended from the party for sexually harassing LJP MLC Nutan Singh," Nityanand Rai told ANI.

Niraj Kumar Singh Bablu, rained blows on party MLC Lal Babu in the Legislative Council premises yesterday after Bablu's wife Nutan Singh complained to him about Babu sexually harassing her.

The episode had created a major embarassment for BJP and NDA. Ruling Grand Alliance MLCs had yesterday raised in the Legislative Council the issue of a BJP MLA reportedly thrashing a party MLC for "sexually harassing" the former's wife who is an LJP MLC.

The matter came up in state Legislative Assembly also today when Janata Dal (United) member Ranju Geeta raised the issue. She was supported by party and other women legislators.
