Terming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as vindictive, the Congress Party on Saturday said that the former is targeting Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh for political vendetta.
"This has been a clear targeting for political vendetta. These are old matters and text related matters will not justify the blatant abuse of the agencies of the state investigating agencies and the enforcement agencies. It has been condemned by my colleague in Delhi and it shows the true face of this government," Congress leader Anand Sharma told ANI.
"This is selective targeting of senior leaders of the Indian National Congress. It is never heard that a residence of a sitting Chief Minister, who is one of the senior most serving Chief Minister of India, have been raided," he added.
"There were many allegations and there are allegations against three of their Chief Ministers. Why Prime Minister Narendra Modi is silent there? Why no action was taken against Government of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh?" questioned Sharma.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today raided eleven locations in Himachal Pradesh and New Delhi connected to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.
A Disproportionate Assets case has also been registered against Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The BJP had accused Virbhadra Singh of taking bribe from an energy firm for giving it a 10-month extension. The party also accused Singh of evading tax.
