Bomb blasts in Patharghata village late last night killed two Congress workers, following which, violent clashes have broken out during the West Bengal municipality elections.

Police had to baton charge political activists thronging around the electoral booth in the area.

Clashes were reported from Ward number 11 after BJP and TMC workers clashed with each other.

Municipal elections are being held today, pitting the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Left Front in a face-off.

The TMC's electoral supremacy will be challenged by the Left Front in this key municipal election.

Meanwhile, the campaign for election of representatives to the Asansol Municipal Corporation and Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation is expected to end by this afternoon. The results will be announced on October 16.
