Janata Dal United (JD-U) leader K.C.Tyagi criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday for wanting to give tickets four riot-tainted leaders to contest in the forthcoming general elections.

"It is quite unfortunate that the BJP is taking politics to such a low, that it has decided to nominate leaders to contest Lok Sabha elections, who were found involved in communal riots. Even though these riot tainted leaders have got bail, but nominating them is not a good step taken by the saffron party." Tyagi said.

The BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit plans to acquire Lok Sabha tickets for four of its MLAs booked on the charge of fuelling the riots in Muzaffarnagar last year.

The party plans to propose fielding Kairana MLA Hukum Singh from the Kairana Lok Sabha seat, Bijnore MLA Bhartendu Singh from Bijnore, Sardhana MLA Sangeet Som from Muzaffarnagar seat, and Thana Bhawan MLA Suresh Rana from Saharanpur. The proposals will be put before the BJP central election committee meeting on March 13.
