Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said that his party was working towards a Congress-free India in the lead-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

"The Congress has ruled the country for 55 years and ruined the country -from Parliament to Panchayat, from Municipalities to Mukhya Mantri (Chief Minister) (and) every post that was held by the Congress Party. It is responsible for all the ills faced by the country that's why we want a Congress-mukta Bharat (Congress-free India)," Naidu said here.

Naidu said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who is also the Chairman of the Campaign Committee, will kick-start the BJP campaign from Hyderabad on August 11.

"Narendra Modi, as the Chairman of the Campaign Committee, will be starting his campaign on August 11 from Hyderabad which will call to the people of India to make the country free of the Congress Party," Naidu said.

"Our agenda is development and good governance," Naidu added.
