The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative of joining the Chinese social media platform 'Weibo', saying this unique move will help to reach the common man of China.

"In order to outreach not only the Government of China, but to the common man of China, prime minister has take the initiative of entering the social media platform of China," BJP leader Sudhanshu

Trivedi told ANI.

"Everybody knows that the established social media tools and other platforms which are used worldwide are not used in China. So, prime minister took this unique initiative and we hope that this will be an

effective instrument in order to build up confidence and resolve certain issues and move towards better relationship with China," he added.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi made his debut on the Chinese social media platform 'Weibo'.

This is the first of a kind attempt by any leader across India.

"Hello China! Looking forward to interacting with Chinese friends through Weibo," Prime Minister Modi shared his first post on the platform.

Later in November 2014, Prime Minister Modi met Premier Le Keqiang in Myanmar. Both meetings were very productive and the leaders discussed several ways to enhance ties between India and China.

As Gujarat's Chief Minister, Prime Minister Modi had travelled to China earlier in November 2011.
