FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who stepped down from the post after his recent re-election, has congratulated Mohun Bagan A.C. on winning the 2014-15 season of the Hero I-League.
He said that it was because of their "exceptional performance" that the Kolkata giants have achieved this success.
Mohun Bagan snatched a draw against Bengaluru FC in the dying minutes of the second half at the Kanteerva Stadium to win their maiden I-League trophy.
In a letter sent to All India Football Federation president Praful Patel, Blatter said, "A national team victory is a wonderful occasion and an opportunity to draw satisfaction from a job well done. Please pass on my own personal congratulations, along with those of the whole football family Mohun Bagan on their exceptional performance."
He said that this was a true team victory, and all of them deserve to share in the accolades; the players and coach of course, but also the technical and medical staff, not least, the loyal fans.
Blatter, who was re-elected FIFA president for the fifth time before he quit, asked Mohun Bagan to continue with their good work.
