Blog-publishing platform Medium has changed its rules and now prohibits acts of public shaming, revenge porn and posting private information on others intended to harass them.

According to The Next Web, Medium says that it thought long and hard about how to best navigate the line between free speech and protecting users, but believes this is what's best for its community.

Medium also says in a blog post that they want Medium's rules to be like the most human and practical kinds of rules, rules of hospitality, rules of the road, golden rules. They show what they think it means for their guests to treat each other civilly, at least, and admirably, if possible. Now it's their job to apply those rules thoughtfully and fairly.

Medium further says if the users come across content they feel is harassing or otherwise violating its rules, they will speak with a real person about it, not an algorithm.
