At least six people were drowned and several others went missing after a boat ferrying at least 25 people capsized in Madhya Pradesh.
The boat was carrying around 25 passengers when this incident took place in Datia district in river Sindh.
Police said six people were dead and rescue operations were underway.
"We found two more dead bodies in the morning so that makes it six casualties in the accident. We are still finding the exact number of the people missing. Some are saying 10-12 are missing, some are saying 10-15. We are trying our level best that we find all the dead bodies and if there is any survivor we are also trying to save them. Rescue operation will go on till we find all the dead," said Inspector General of Police, D.C. Sagar.
Authorities said they will not give up until they find all the people who went missing.
Police and administration officials rushed to the village, located in interiors of the district.
"According to the inputs and information gathered there were around 25 people on the boat and the accident is due to the carelessness of the villagers as the boat was in a damaged state. And people were asked to sit on the boat more than what it could carry," said Home Guard Commandant, R.S. Arhulia.
Residents also rushed to rescue the drowning people but could only save a few.
A surviver said many of his relatives were on the boat but only a few had survived.
"Yes all my family members were there on the boat. There were almost 16 to 17 relatives. I do not know how many have come out. I guess six to seven are alive. The boat was broken from below and when the number of passengers increased it completely broke" said one of the survivors, Mittoo Gaikwad.
The search for the survivors is still on. Further details are awaited.
