Australian bowler Doug Bollinger is staking his claim for another crack at the international level as another left-arm quick Mitchell Johnson revives his Test career.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Ryan Carters wore Queensland down with a career-best 154, but it was Bollinger who had Queensland on the ropes after landing three crucial blows with the new ball late on Saturday, including the vital wicket of Usman Khawaja.
Bollinger's burst left NSW in a very strong position to push for their second consecutive outright victory against the Bulls, who, in reply to 9-397 declared, were 3-53 at stumps on the second day but effectively four down due to an injury to Matthew Gale, the report said.
Bollinger may have started the summer a long way down the pecking order of Australian fast bowlers but he now deserves at least to be considered among the list of quicks in contention should there be any more injuries, the report added.
No paceman has taken more wickets in the Shield this season than the 32-year-old, whose 3-26 on the second day took his season tally to 13 victims at a cost of 19 apiece, the report further said.
Bollinger said that he feels like he is bowling well and getting the ball through well, adding that he was swinging the new ball and that was key.
