Bombay High Court on Monday passed an order directing special NIA court to hear the 2008 Malegaon blast case preferably on day to day basis and to expedite the trial.

The Malegaon blast case is being heard by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court.

The application seeking appropriate directions to the special NIA court seeking speedy hearing in the Malegaon trial was heard by a bench comprising of Justices SS Shinde and AS Gadkari.

The NIA court will hear the matter next on October 26.

The NIA court on Saturday had rejected the plea of Lieutenant Colonel Shrikant Purohit, one of the accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, seeking dismissal of charges against him under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The NIA court had asserted that the prosecution of Lt Col Purohit under UAPA is valid.

Six people were killed while more than hundred got injured in the blast that took place on September 29, 2008, in the Muslim majority town of Malegaon.

In November 2008, the ATS arrested 11 people in this connection. In April 2011, the investigation was transferred to the NIA.
